  About Mind

The Mind Project at the Exploratorium is developing new exhibits and programs that help museum visitors explore and experiment with their own minds and investigate research on things like attention, emotion and judgment. Many of the exhibits are based on current research in psychology and related fields.

This Web site supports the museum exhibition. It will offer many interactive experiences, some of which are not well-suited to the museum environment (for example, at-home activities about sleep and attention). We also hope to offer support materials and provide site visitors with off-line, real-world experiences.

We are trying something new with this site: unlike prior Exploratorium museum exhibition sites, this Web site lets you create a user account and log in. Your account lets you partake in online adaptations of important psychology experiments. We will hold periodic raffles to encourage Web user feedback from a range of audiences during the development stage.

We will also be experimenting with user-contributed content. For example, we are currently prototyping What's in Your Fridge, an exhibit featuring photos of the contents of various folks' refrigerators. At a later date, you would be able to submit your own fridge photos, as well as dreams, stories, and drawings to be curated into small online galleries.

This prototype site will be replaced in 2007 with the final site, which will contain the strongest and most interesting experiences, as well as collections of user-submitted data and art.

We hope you enjoy the site—and thanks for your feedback.
